Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russian leader Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with the head of the White House Donald Trump.
Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump discussed the situation in the Middle East and the need for an early settlement of the armed conflict in Ukraine. The Russian President emphasised that in order to resolve the Ukrainian issue, it is necessary to eliminate the root causes of the conflict.
Putin emphasised that a long-term settlement of the conflict in Ukraine can be achieved through negotiations.
In addition, Trump received an invitation to visit Moscow and called the conversation with Vladimir Putin productive. According to the US president, the leaders of the states plan to instruct their teams to start negotiations immediately.
The presidents also discussed the Iranian nuclear programme, bilateral Russian-American relations in the field of economy and the exchange of citizens of Russia and the United States.
We shall remind you that earlier Vladimir Putin said that Moscow was ready for talks with Kiev without preconditions, but on the basis of the Istanbul agreements and the current situation on the front line, stressing the need for dialogue only with the legitimate leadership of the country.
