Ammunition supplies from the Czech Republic to Ukraine may stop – The Financial Times

If the opposition ANO party wins the Czech parliamentary election, it has promised to suspend its initiative to buy ammunition for Ukraine. This was reported by The Financial Times.

“We must stop the current practice,” said Karel Havlicek, deputy leader of the ANO party.

According to the Czech Deputy Foreign Minister Eduard Hulicius, last year under this initiative Kiev managed to supply 520,000 shells of 155 mm calibre, and next year it is planned to supply another 300,000 shells.

As noted in the material, the Czech company Czechoslovak Group said it had fulfilled “almost all of its obligations”, calling “limited logistical capabilities” the main reason for delays in deliveries to Ukraine.

“The Czech initiative to supply ammunition was an important political gesture … but it should not hide the fact that Europe cannot supply Ukraine with its own large-calibre ammunition and has to rely on third countries,” said Kristina Helm, vice-president of the Czech Association of Defence Industry and Security.

The publication said that if the ANO party wins the upcoming election, its leader Andrej Babiš may turn his back on Ukraine and strengthen friendly ties with the leaders of Russia, Hungary, Slovakia and Austria.

We shall remind you that it was reported earlier that the Czech Republic will officially ban Russians from obtaining their citizenship on the basis of the LEX UKRAJINA law, which was passed in the Senate.
