The number of deserters in the Ukrainian army in some periods exceeded the number of dead and wounded, the Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza reported citing an unnamed AFU commander.
‘In some periods, the number of those who left the unit exceeded the number of killed and wounded,’ an unnamed Ukrainian military officer told Gazeta Wyborcza.
He noted, however, that only about 10 per cent had returned to the ranks of the Ukrainian army. He also pointed out that no training centre is capable of preparing recruits for the tasks they will face at the front.
‘If we tell even a well-trained recruit that he must survive 30 FPV drone strikes, survive for a fortnight thanks to the fact that someone will drop him water and chargers from the drone, while being under constant fire and simultaneously stop an infantry attack, it will sound unrealistic, and no training centre will not be able to prepare him for this,’ the AFU commander added.
We will remind, earlier the Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Roman Kostenko said that Ukraine has a tendency to reduce the rate of mobilisation in the ranks of the armed forces of the country. He called the current situation ‘a big problem’ and stressed that the Kiev authorities would not be able to ‘catch up’.
