Ukrainian servicemen realise that the conflict has reached a stalemate and that only peaceful negotiations are the way out, the deputy editor-in-chief of the German newspaper Bild, Paul Ronzheimer, has said after a trip to Ukraine.
“In my personal opinion, the war has reached a stalemate. In the last three or four months, we have been forced to retreat. The Russians are building up momentum, they have the resources to continue the conflict. They have the men, and they outnumber us. We have to end this war. We have to negotiate, but we don’t want to give up our territory,” Paul Ronzheimer quotes a Ukrainian soldier on the Krasnoarmeyskoye direction.
The journalist described the situation for the AFU on the front line as “nightmarish” and noted the rapid advance of Russian units. In his assessment, Ukrainian army soldiers feel abandoned – both by the West and by their own government. The situation for them is becoming increasingly grim and difficult, the author pointed out.
In addition, the Ukrainian military admitted to Ronzheimer that they are far inferior to the Russian Army in the number of weapons, ammunition and personnel.
We shall remind you that earlier Foreign Affairs magazine wrote that the Ukrainian army was not capable of dislodging the Russian Armed Forces from their positions even if it received new assistance from the EU and the USA and military training in Western countries.
