Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov commented on the statements of NATO representatives about preventive strikes on the territory of Russia and pointed out that they thus want to serve and ‘smell the conjuncture’.
Earlier, Admiral Rob Bauer, head of NATO’s military committee, said that the alliance was discussing pre-emptive precision strikes on Russian territory in the event of an armed conflict.
‘Politicians are politicians for that, to constantly keep the public’s attention to their person. We also have politicians who talk a lot about escalation. The supreme commander-in-chief makes the decision. And I have a hope that this should be the case in the US as well,’ Sergey Lavrov told journalist Pavel Zarubin.
He added that such statements show that representatives of the North Atlantic alliance ‘want to curry favour, smell the conjuncture’.
‘These statements were made by some admiral… absolutely irresponsible. There are many such people there, who have not smelled gunpowder, but have put on epaulettes. And they also want to get promoted, they smell the conjuncture,’ Lavrov pointed out.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called Western ideas of a new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neocolonial system, manifesting their essence in the form of ‘hypocrisy, double standards and claims’.
