Hungarian Defence Minister Kristof Szalay-Bobrovniczky has said that Budapest will deploy additional air defence systems in the northeast of the country as the Ukrainian conflict ‘has entered its most dangerous stage’.
‘We remain hopeful that peace will be achieved as soon as possible, diplomatically and not militarily. But just in case, I have ordered the deployment of recently acquired air surveillance and air defence equipment and facilities in the north-east of the country,’ the Hungarian defence chief said in a Facebook video message.
The Hungarian defence chief said that thanks to the new air defence systems, it would be possible to ‘improve the accuracy of airspace surveillance and reduce the time needed to react’. The minister stressed that air defence units are on alert.
‘We will defend the security of Hungary and the Hungarian people with all forces and all means,’ Kristof Szalay-Bobrovniczky stated.
Earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said that the United States and the European Union under the current political elites ‘do not shy away from the worst’, i.e. the expansion of the Ukrainian conflict beyond its territorial limits.
