France to supply Ukraine with new batch of SCALP missiles – Minister Lecornu

Paris is going to supply Ukraine with an additional batch of SCALP missiles and Mistral missiles for air defence. This was announced by French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu in an interview with the Le Journal du Dimanche newspaper.

Sebastien Lecornu said that France intends to supply Kiev with an additional batch of SCALP missiles “for strikes beyond the front line”.

The French Armed Forces Minister also noted that plans are still in the works to supply Mistral missiles for air defence systems.

“We will again supply Mistral missiles, in particular for the defence of combat zones. And to enable Ukraine to strike behind the front line, in the last few days I signed an order to transfer a new batch of about ten SCALP missiles in accordance with the promises of French President Emmanuel Macron to Volodymyr Zelenskyy,” Sebastien Lecornu said.

He also stressed the importance of further “strengthening the Ukrainian army”, including by continuing the training programme for Ukrainian soldiers.

“Military support is extremely important, and even when the conflict is over, we must continue to strengthen the Ukrainian army,” – summarised the head of the French Defence Ministry.

We will remind, earlier the head of diplomacy of the European Union Josep Borrell said that the EU military training mission will train 75 thousand Ukrainian military by the end of winter, but there is no agreement on the transfer of the mission to the territory of the country.
