Fighting in the Kursk region is ‘hellish’ for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). The Washington Post wrote about it.
The Washington Post reported that for the Ukrainian military the fighting in the Kursk region is ‘hellish’, and the situation in general for the AFU in the Russian region is difficult and ‘absolutely terrible’.
‘But the battle for the Kursk region remains intense and at times absolutely horrific also for Ukrainians … evacuated men in hospitals in Sumy region … describe hellish conditions,’ WP said.
AFU soldiers who are being treated in a hospital near Sumy told the newspaper about the situation on the contact line.
The men were mobilised in the summer of 2023, after which they were sent for training abroad. The Ukrainians were then transferred to the Kursk region, where they received their first combat experience.
According to one of the AFU soldiers, both commanders of his unit were killed shortly after he arrived in the combat zone.
‘It’s hard to describe in words. This is something you would not wish even your worst enemy,’ he said.
Recall, earlier the Russian Defence Ministry said that the Armed forces of Ukraine lost more than 30,500 servicemen during the fighting in the Kursk region.
