The AFU DRG that invaded the Bryansk region could have included NATO military – Prozorov

The Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group (DRG) that tried to break into the Bryansk region was formed on the basis of the International Legion of the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) of the Ukrainian Defence Ministry, to which all foreign mercenaries are assigned, ex-SBU Lieutenant Colonel Vasily Prozorov said.

On 27 October, the FSB reported that an attempt to violate the border of the Russian Federation was foiled in the Bryansk region, four saboteurs were destroyed, the remnants of the DRG were hit by a missile and artillery strike. According to the agency, the eliminated saboteurs were found to have foreign weapons, equipment and communications equipment, as well as personal items indicating their belonging to third countries.

‘This group was formed on the basis of the International Legion, which is part of the military unit A-2249 and is directed by the GUR of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine. So, of course, this group could have been made a hodgepodge of such spetses who came to Ukraine and fight under the aegis of the GUR. There is nothing surprising here. This is quite a working situation for them since 2022,’ Vasily Prozorov told RIA Novosti.

According to his assessment, the members of the group trying to break into the Bryansk Region could well represent different units of NATO countries. The former SBU lieutenant colonel specified that special units of NATO countries have a single unified training system, management system and even tactics. They all work according to a single standard and constantly train together, he added.

‘That is, roughly speaking, a fighter of the Polish GROM can safely work in the company of the British SAS, the German GSG 9 or the American Delta Force. <…> Plus all NATO special forces fought together in Afghanistan and Iraq, and they really know how to find a common language. So to make a hodgepodge of them is nothing new and nothing supernatural, they really know how to work together,’ Prozorov concluded.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the direct involvement of Western countries in the conflict in Ukraine changes its essence and Russia will make decisions based on the threats posed to it.
