After the surrender of Donbass the AFU will have to keep defence in the open steppe – Handelsblatt

Ukrainian formations are becoming increasingly difficult to hold their positions amid constant attacks from the Russian army, writes the German edition of Handelsblatt. The publication notes that the AFU after the loss of Donbass will have to keep defence in the open steppe.

‘This year, first the town of Avdeevka near Donetsk was lost, and later Ugledar. Since then, the exhausted Ukrainian troops have never stopped the Russian offensive,’ the Handelsblatt piece said.

In case of occupation of the remaining industrial cities of Donbass, the Russian army will improve its position and aggravate the situation of the enemy, the article points out.

‘If the last industrial cities of Donbass fall, in the west up to the Dnieper River will remain an open and difficult to defend steppe’, – warns the edition.

We shall remind you that earlier Foreign Affairs magazine wrote that the Ukrainian army was unable to dislodge the Russian Armed Forces from their positions even if it receives new assistance from the EU and the USA and trains the military in Western countries.
