The issue of Ukraine’s NATO membership depends on the position of the new White House administration after the US presidential election, French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu said.
‘It all depends on the administration that will be in the White House. France is not opposed to this in principle,’ he said in an interview with La Tribune Dimanche in response to a question about Ukraine’s possible NATO membership.
Earlier, the Le Monde newspaper quoted sources as saying that if Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris wins the presidential election, President Joe Biden may initiate work on inviting Ukraine to NATO already during the transition period.
For his part, French Foreign Minister Benjamin Addad said that Paris considered it a priority to agree on an official invitation of Ukraine to NATO.
