Business Insider: the AFU has already lost almost 40 German Leopard tanks

Business Insider has published a piece reporting that the Ukrainian military has lost nearly 40 German Leopard tanks since the beginning of the SMO, according to open sources alone.

‘In fact, some open sources estimate that Ukraine has already lost about 40 tanks,’ the article says.

It is noted that Leopard tanks are far from being as invincible as they are believed to be, although they are powerful and heavily armoured.

The publication also pointed to the high cost of German tanks and their significant vulnerability to drones. For example, the piece notes that both sides of the conflict equip their tanks with special protective screens against drones and munitions.

‘The screen for Leopard costs about $20 thousand, which is only a small part of the cost of a multi-million dollar tank. Installation of protective mesh screens at the Ukrainian military repair base takes about 12 hours,’ the author added.

Earlier, Military Watch Magazine wrote that the Leopard tanks seized by the Russian army, which are now being scrutinised at Uralvagonzavod, may contain sensitive technology because the vehicles were taken from the Bundeswehr’s stocks.
