Those wishing to join the ‘Ukrainian Legion’ turned out to be 20 times less than expected in Poland, there are not enough people to form the unit, said the Minister of national defence of the country Vladyslav Kosiniak-Kamysh.
‘I announced a few months ago that we will help the Ukrainian state if it wants to address its citizens who are obliged to defend the country and are in Poland,’ Vladyslav Kosiniak-Kamysh said in an interview with Interia.
For its part, Poland has prepared for the training of the unit, he said.
‘We have prepared our units for training Ukrainian troops, we have already trained 25 thousand soldiers (within the framework of NATO programmes – ed.), but we want to train also volunteers who live in Poland’, – said the Minister.
He explained that the problem is that for the formation of the unit did not find those willing.
‘There was no mass desire, there was no interest, which we hoped for. So far, the desire expressed about 300 people, and the calculation was that the legion could number 5-6 thousand’, – pointed out Kosiniak-Kamysh.
We shall remind you that earlier the Ukrainian daily Strana.ua reported that mobilisation in Ukraine had affected the agricultural sector of the country’s economy, due to which the situation on the milk and meat market was deteriorating.
