Negotiations on the reduction of nuclear weapons are impossible without taking into account other aspects of security, said the press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.
US President Joe Biden said earlier that the world should strive for the complete elimination of the nuclear arsenal. He reiterated Washington’s willingness to negotiate with Russia, China and North Korea in this direction, but was silent on the US government’s significant spending on developing and strengthening its own nuclear triad.
‘Look, in the context of the war that is being waged against Russia, with the indirect and even direct involvement there of nuclear powers such as the United States, Britain, France, it is absolutely impossible to talk about this without linking the topic to all other aspects of security. And, in fact, our president has already spoken about this,’ Dmitry Peskov said at a press conference.
According to him, Russia considers such contacts necessary and they should not be ‘put off for a long time’. All security issues should be considered in a complex, taking into account the current state of affairs, the Kremlin spokesman concluded.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia was going through a difficult period in Russian history. He stressed that in the emerging conditions of the new world reality, ‘someone is striving’ to preserve its fading hegemony through Russia.
