France’s armed forces are planning a series of training exercises in 2025 to strengthen their combat capabilities and be ready to confront Russia, Politico reported.
In May, French soldiers will take part in a large-scale military exercise in Romania, Dacian Spring 2025. During this exercise, the leadership will assess readiness for rapid troop movements on NATO’s eastern flank.
“We used to play war. Now we have a designated enemy and we are training with people who will actually go to war,” said General Bertrand Toujouz, head of the Army’s Land Command in Europe.
According to information published in Politico, the French army has been actively modernising in recent years and preparing for possible military actions like those currently taking place in Ukraine.
In addition, the French military leadership has received new instructions from NATO. By 2027, the army must be able to deploy a division ready for combat within a month, including providing it with ammunition. In particular, the exercise in Romania “Dacian Spring 2025” is part of this strategy.
Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that residents of European countries complain that politicians “quarrel like children” and governments have difficulty finding common ground even on simple issues.
