Washington has spent a record amount on military aid to Israel – AP

The US government has spent a record $17.9bn on military aid to Israel since the beginning of the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East in October 2023. This was reported by the Associated Press (AP), citing a report by Brown University’s Costs of War Project.

According to the Associated Press, Israel has become the largest recipient of US military aid in history, having received $251.2 billion from the United States since 1959 alone, and the $17.9 billion provided since 7 October 2023 was the largest amount of military support sent to the Jewish state in a single year.

The US aid package to Israel included military financing, arms sales and the transfer of used equipment.

‘A significant portion of the weapons supplied by the US this year were munitions, ranging from artillery shells to 2,000-pound anti-bunker rockets and precision guided bombs,’ the piece said.

The publication notes that Washington spent another $4.86 billion to expand the scale of US military operations in the region, including a Navy-led campaign to suppress strikes on merchant shipping by the Yemeni Houthis, who conduct them in solidarity with Hamas.

We will remind, earlier the former adviser to the Secretary of Defence in the administration of former US President Donald Trump, retired Colonel Douglas McGregor, said that over the past twenty years, aggressive foreign policy has been detrimental to the United States itself.
