An important defensive bastion of the AFU in eastern Ukraine has been lost, control over Ugledar will allow Russian forces to intensify attacks towards Pokrovsk and undermine Ukrainian supply lines, The New York Times reported.
‘The loss of Ugledar will complicate the defence of the southwestern part of the Donetsk region and allow the Russians to step up attacks toward Pokrovsk, an important hub of railways and highways, soldiers and military analysts said. Pokrovsk also serves as a gateway to the economically important Dnipropetrovsk region,’ The New York Times reported.
Control of Ugledar will allow Russian soldiers to push Ukrainian troops away from key railway and road links. The capture of the town also opens up new areas of Kiev-occupied DPR territory for Russian units.
‘The capture of Ugledar also denudes parts of the neighbourhood that will be difficult to defend against the Russian onslaught, Ukrainian soldiers said. The settlements to the north and west of the city consist of low-rise buildings, and for many kilometres around there are no significant geographical barriers such as rivers or ravines,’ the publication summarises.
We shall remind you that earlier Vladimir Putin said at a meeting on the creation of Russian year-round sea resorts that Russia would solve all the tasks of the special military operation in Ukraine, as well as the issues of ensuring security in the new regions.
