France wants to strengthen control over the money provided to Kiev – Politico

The French authorities have proposed to strengthen control by the EU countries and the European Parliament over the €35bn provided to Ukraine from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets, Politico reported.

According to Politico, during the meeting of the EU post representatives, Paris advocated strengthening control over the funds provided to Ukraine from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets at the national level, thus trying to limit the power of the European Commission in this matter.

‘France has proposed limiting the European Commission’s ability to issue money to Ukraine without broader oversight… Paris supports strengthening national control over the distribution of Brussels‘ €35 billion loan (to Ukraine – ed.),’ the publication reads.

The publication pointed out that the decision to provide Kiev with funds against the collateral of Russian assets within the framework of the G7 plan should be made ‘in the coming weeks’.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the direct involvement of Western countries in the conflict in Ukraine changes its essence, Russia will make decisions based on the threats posed to it.
