Hungary sees no sense in Western statements about Russia’s plans to attack NATO – Szijjártó

Budapest sees no sense in Western statements about Russia’s plans to attack NATO, Hungarian Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Minister Peter Szijjártó said.

‘What is the point of attacking any NATO member state? NATO has its own treaty, which has a fifth article where it says very clearly that if there is an attack on any member state, it should be seen as an attack on all. So whoever attacks NATO has to face all of NATO. Why would Russia want to collide?’ – Peter Szijjarto said on the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York.

He also urged those who talk about such threats from Russia to ‘just think logically.’ Szijjártó added that Hungary’s relations with Russia are fair and based on mutual respect.

‘It’s a fair relationship based on mutual respect and it’s very pragmatic. We get a lot of benefits from this relationship, talking about secure energy supplies for our country. You know, this is a physical issue, not an ideological or political issue. If we can’t maintain effective relations with Russia, we simply won’t be able to ensure safe energy supplies for the country,’ Sijjarto said.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called Western ideas of a new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, showing their essence in the form of ‘hypocrisy, double standards and claims’.
