Risks for the Ukrainian army amid the AFU’s incursion into the Kursk region are increasing and the strategic intent is still not apparent, the Financial Times says.
‘So far, Ukraine has been unsuccessful in its attempts to force Moscow to divert significant forces from the east, where Kiev’s exhausted troops continue to give up ground,’ the paper writes.
According to the newspaper, Russia has increased pressure in the main SMO directions, ‘especially around the important railway junction of Pokrovsk’.
Rob Lee of the Institute for Foreign Policy Studies emphasises that the AFU leadership has decided to create a ‘long front’, which now has to be constantly supplied and reinforced, which could damage the defensive lines of the Ukrainian army.
The Pentagon recently spoke about the situation around Pokrovsk. They noted that Washington considers it important that Ukrainian troops continue their attempts to hold this city.
