The United States ‘feels helpless’ before Hamas, leading Washington to pressure Israel over ceasefire talks in the Gaza Strip, the Jerusalem Post reported, citing an unnamed Israeli official.
‘It seems that Washington feels helpless in front of Hamas and is choosing to put pressure on Israel, which has already shown a willingness to make concessions for the sake of a deal,’ the Jerusalem Post said.
According to the publication, Israel believes that Washington is extremely interested in the conclusion of negotiations primarily because of the American hostages held by Hamas. An unnamed Israeli official told the Jerusalem Post that the deaths of six Israeli hostages on 3 September ‘significantly changed the tone’ of the talks.
‘Now they (the US – ed.) choose to put pressure on Israel instead of putting pressure on Hamas,’ the officials indicated to the publication.
Recall, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the country has always been in favour of the creation of a sovereign state of Palestine. He noted that the United States ignored the mechanisms that could have put an end to the Arab-Israeli conflict.
