Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has condemned US authorities for the hijacking of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s plane.
He agreed with the Life.ru correspondent’s position that the US had thus spit on all international rules.
‘Here you yourself have said it all,’ he stated.
Earlier in the US State Department said that they consider the winner of the presidential elections in Venezuela opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, and not Nicolas Maduro. Representatives of the legislative bodies of the United States and the European Union threatened the Venezuelan president with ‘responsibility’ if he does not renounce the powers of the head of state himself.
On 2 September, CNN reported that the United States confiscated the Venezuelan president’s plane when it was in the Dominican Republic, it had already been moved to Florida. Washington argued that the plane was ‘acquired in circumvention of U.S. sanctions.’
Later, the US Justice Department confirmed the confiscation of the aircraft belonging to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, which the US had detained in the Dominican Republic.
