Military observer David Axe said in an article for Forbes that heavy fighting in the Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovskoye) direction has exhausted the 47th mechanised brigade of the Ukrainian army.
‘Six months of heavy fighting against larger Russian forces have exhausted the Ukrainian elite 47th Mechanised Brigade,’ David Axe wrote.
He said the unit of two thousand soldiers was redeployed in eastern Ukraine in February with all the M-1 Abrams tanks the US provided to Kiev last year.
‘Today, the brigade has perhaps half of these tanks left, unless all of the visibly damaged units are repairable,’ the author pointed out.
The columnist also noted that the Ukrainian forces in the Krasnoarmeysk direction will not be able to organise any operation to recover the lost territories.
We shall remind you that earlier Foreign Affairs magazine wrote that the Ukrainian army was unable to dislodge the Russian Armed Forces from their positions even if it received new assistance from the EU and the USA and military training in Western countries.
