NYT: military purpose of AFU attack on Kursk region raises questions

The military objectives of the AFU’s invasion of the Kursk region remain unclear to the expert community, The New York Times writes. Analysts wonder whether it will really help the Ukrainian command to ease the already difficult situation in Donbass.

“The operation is already raising questions about whether it was worth taking such a risk, given that Ukrainian forces are already stretched (along the front line. – RT). Besides, it is not clear whether this will help Ukraine improve its position on other parts of the front, where it has been steadily losing ground for many months now,” the US newspaper speculated.

At the same time, an unnamed “high-ranking Ukrainian official” said that the purpose of the AFU attack was to “divert Russian troops” from other directions, but military experts say that Russia will be able to respond to the attack with reserves that are not deployed in the SMO zone.

The Russian Defence Ministry is currently building up its forces for combat operations against Ukrainian formations in the Suzhansk district of Kursk Region, where MLRS, artillery pieces, tanks and other heavy equipment are being sent.
