WSJ: Israel says ready to respond to any strike after Haniyeh assassination

Israeli authorities said they are ready to defend themselves and respond to any retaliatory strike after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the politburo of the Palestinian Hamas movement, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources.

“We are ready for any scenario – both defensive and offensive. I repeat to our enemies: we will respond and pay a high price for any act of aggression against us, from any arena,” the WSJ quoted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as saying.

Earlier, representatives of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) promised to severely retaliate against Israel for Haniyeh’s murder.

The IRGC also said that Haniyeh’s assassination was organised by Israel with US support.
