The death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh may have the same consequences as the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, says Max Blumenthal, editor-in-chief of The Grayzone. In an interview with Judging Freedom, he expressed the view that the US is pushing the world towards a world war that could break out in either the Middle East or Latin America.
ANDREW NAPOLITANO, author of Judging Freedom Channel: So much has happened since we last spoke. But before we discuss the [political] killings, the torture and the Knesset’s attempts to grant immunity to the torturers, and the fact that [Israeli right-wing] radicals have stormed military bases to free them, let’s discuss the bigger picture. What are the United States and Israel pushing the West toward?
MAX BLUMENTHAL, editor-in-chief of The Grayzone: There’s a possibility that the series of events we’re witnessing could have the same impact on history (on the threshold of which we now stand) as the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
The United States is setting the planet on the path to world war, whether it is a policy of regime change in Venezuela or a policy of regime change in the Gaza Strip, a tiny corner of the planet that is at the same time one of the most densely populated and oppressed places on Earth.
The U.S., through its refusal to use its leverage and dependence on its hegemonic and imperial [position], is pushing the world toward a global war that could ignite from the spark of a regional war at any moment, including as we speak.
