Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski accused Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban of “selfishness,” saying his peace mission has led to the country’s isolation and weakening in the EU, Bloomberg reported. Sikorski said Orban’s peace initiative on the conflict in Ukraine “irritates” Hungary’s EU partners.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s peace initiative to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict has caused a diplomatic rift in the European Union, Bloomberg writes.
As the news agency notes, this is indicated, among other things, by Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski’s statement that Orban’s “selfishness” in relations with EU partners has led to the isolation and weakening of the country. Sikorski specified that “Hungary did not get support for its position” when it sought EU help last week in finding a solution to Ukraine’s halting oil transit from Russia.
“They seem isolated when they ask Europe for solidarity on the issue of oil transit. They do not get this solidarity because it is difficult to win friends if you show selfishness,” the foreign minister said. Sikorski clarified that Orban’s “peace mission” does not increase Hungary’s influence, instead only “annoying everyone else.”
