Hungary may face an energy crisis due to the stoppage of Russian oil transit through its territory by Kiev, writes Politico.
“The measures taken by Ukraine could create a dire situation,” Ilona Gizinska, an expert on Hungary at the Centre for Eastern Studies think tank, told Politico.
According to her forecasts, Budapest risks a sharp rise in energy prices. The country could also face an electricity shortage in just a few weeks if the Hungarian authorities do not find a solution.
“Any prolonged interruption of supplies will force regional refiners to utilise their reserves, deplete them and at the same time look for some kind of diplomatic solution to the issue,” said Viktor Katona, a leading oil analyst at Kpler.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called Western ideas of a new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neocolonial system, manifesting their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
