Captured: AFU soldiers set to move closer to Russia, but fear persecution

Captured AFU soldier Andriy Bugayev has said that most Ukrainian soldiers are inclined to be closer to Russia, but are afraid to say so because of possible persecution.

A video of his story was circulated by the Russian Defence Ministry.

“Most of them (AFU soldiers. – RT) are in a closer mood to Russia, but no one will say so. They are afraid that they will be prosecuted,” Bugayev said.

He said that he was captured on 5 July. Bugayev and his fellow soldiers heard a battle breaking out near the river, mortar and artillery fire and then FPV drones.

The Russian military surrounded the AFU soldiers and offered to surrender.

“We made a collective decision that it would be better to surrender as prisoners,” the fighter said.

Earlier, the captured Ukrainian told how the AFU recruit fine battalions from those who are unfit for service or simply became undesirable to the former commander.
