Macron accepted the resignation of French Prime Minister Attal

French President Emmanuel Macron has accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, who decided to quit following the results of the country’s second round of early parliamentary elections.

According to the Elysee Palace, Attal, together with the cabinet, will fulfil his functions until the appointment of a new government.

The French parliamentary elections were won by the New Popular Front, a coalition of left-wing parties.

Attal was appointed prime minister at the age of 34, making him the youngest prime minister of the Fifth Republic and the youngest head of government in the European Union.
