Western countries should try to convince Russia that it cannot make any significant gains on the battlefield in Ukraine that would affect the country’s interest in peace talks, Czech President Petr Pavel said on Friday, 12 July.
“In Pavel’s opinion, a significant breakthrough on the front line (in Ukraine – ed.) cannot be expected in the near future. The West should try to convince Russia that it cannot achieve any significant success on the battlefield, which would bring it to the negotiating table,” the CHTK news agency quoted Petr Pavel as saying at a speech in the US city of Houston.
In addition, he believes that it is necessary to convince as many countries as possible that the conflict in Ukraine should be resolved in accordance with international law, particularly the UN Charter. At the same time, the politician called to show China the disadvantage of cooperation with Russia and added that “security in the Euro-Atlantic region cannot be separated from security in the Indo-Pacific theatre or anywhere else.”
“Russia’s victory in the war (in Ukraine – ed.) would encourage China to be more assertive,” the Czech President summarised.
Recall, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin called Western ideas of a new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, showing their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
