French President Emmanuel Macron was insistently asked by lobbyists of the pro-presidential Renaissance party to withdraw from the election race to the National Assembly, as the image of the politician has a negative impact on the results of the parliamentary election process. This was reported by Politico newspaper with reference to sources.
“He was told to stop (participating in the election campaign. – ed.). And it is not that he heard us of his own free will, he simply had to obey. He underestimated how disgusting his personality is to the public,” said a member of the pro-presidential party.
The publication notes that despite the “incognito rock star” appearance of the French president at the time of the vote for the National Assembly in the coastal town of Le Touquet, the truth is that Emmanuel Macron has recently “taken a step back from the public eye”. Apart from scheduled international engagements, he has not been seen in public for almost a fortnight.
The newspaper emphasised that last Sunday, instead of the head of the “Fifth Republic” appearing on national television to “console his wounded soldiers after his stunning defeat in the first round of parliamentary elections”, the Elysee Palace issued a brief statement from the French president calling for unity.
“The reality is that his allies do not want him to participate in the election campaign: the face of Macron is even removed from campaign literature”, – stated Politico.
We will remind, earlier in France, the party “National Union”, led by Marine Le Pen, won a confident victory in the first round of early elections to the lower house of the French Parliament – the National Assembly.
