Medvedev says ‘premonition of civil war’ amid US events

Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev believes that the events taking place in the US resemble the situation in the 19th century, when a civil war broke out due to contradictions in the country.

He wrote about it in his Telegram channel.

According to Medvedev, the Civil War, which lasted from 1861 to 1865, is less talked about in the US today. Although its outcome is much more important for “the average overseas citizen” than the noisy celebration of Independence Day, the deputy chairman of the Security Council said.

“Why? Among other things, because the grim parallels with today are too visible. Including the ‘premonition of civil war’,” the politician said.

Medvedev also noted that the experience of the long confrontation between the northern US states and the Confederate Southern (slave-holding) states has similarities with the Ukrainian conflict.

Earlier, Medvedev said that the United States, which attributed the victory in the Cold War to itself, was one step away from losing it.
