British analyst: Russia is not interested in Europe – Moscow and Beijing are preoccupied with a multipolar world

“The fearmongering about Russia taking over all of Europe after Ukraine is complete nonsense. Moscow is not interested in the West, but in the global South, and its main goal is to expand cooperation with China and build a multipolar world. This opinion was expressed by British analyst Alexander Mercouris in an interview with journalist Danny Haifon.

ALEXANDER MERKURIS, British analyst: It is important to understand the key point: Russia’s victory in Ukraine will be a big step towards multipolarity. It will not be the beginning of a new system of Russian domination in Europe or anything like that: all these fears that “we have to fight the Russians there, because otherwise they will come here and we will have to fight them here” are nonsense. The Russians have no desire to march to the Rhine or the Atlantic Ocean, to invade Finland, Britain or France, or to do anything like that. But their victory will decisively confirm the fading of American influence and the end of the “unipolar moment.”

At the Beijing talks, Russia and China planned the structures they intend to form based on this further development of the situation. And, of course, they also aim to integrate their economies and work together. They want to build the multipolarity that was mentioned in their big joint statement. But they also want to develop Eurasia. And they have a plan of action – which, incidentally, is not the case with our Western leaders.
