Stoltenberg: alliance close to agreeing on a new NATO secretary general

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the alliance is close to agreeing on Mark Rutte’s candidacy for the post of the new Secretary General.

“After today’s statement by (Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor – RT) Orban, it is clear that the alliance is close to finalising agreement on a new secretary-general,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Stoltenberg called Rutte “a very strong candidate with a lot of experience” as prime minister.

Earlier, Orban said that Budapest was ready to support the candidacy of incumbent Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte for the post of NATO Secretary General.
