FT: Rutte, after leading NATO, will authorise Hungary not to participate in support for Kiev

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has promised Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban that if he becomes NATO secretary-general, Hungary will have the right to refuse to participate in the alliance’s activities in support of Ukraine outside its territory.

This is reported by the Financial Times.

According to the newspaper, Rutte’s candidacy for the post of the next NATO Secretary General is currently supported by 29 of the 32 member countries of the alliance.

Earlier, Rutte said that the Netherlands would allocate €138m to Ukraine, including for infrastructure and humanitarian aid.

Also, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the alliance would increase financial and military support for Ukraine.

In addition, he stressed that NATO had not reached a unanimous decision on Ukraine’s membership.
