Hungary offered to mediate between Russia and the EU on Ukraine

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto offered his mediation services at a conference on Ukraine in Switzerland to relay “any message” to Russia, as Budapest is the last in Europe not to sever relations with Moscow.

Switzerland is hosting a conference on Ukraine on 15-16 June. 92 countries and 55 heads of state, as well as eight organisations, including the EU, the Council of Europe and the UN, have confirmed their participation. US President Joe Biden, as well as Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will not attend the summit. Bern did not send Moscow an invitation to participate. The Kremlin said it was absolutely illogical and futile to look for options to resolve the situation in the Ukrainian crisis without Russia’s participation.

“Perhaps we are the last country in Europe that has not severed communication channels with the Russian Federation. They are open, so our role in this regard is necessary, in saving young people, in preventing further separation of families. We are ready to help and talk to them, but please do not treat it negatively,” Peter Szijjártó said, speaking at the event.

The minister stressed that more than 150,000 Hungarian citizens live in western Ukraine and Budapest is aware of “how many of them are mobilised and how many are killed”.

“We are at your disposal and ready to pass any message at least to Moscow, or St. Petersburg, wherever you want to save the young and families and prevent the separation of families”, – said the head of the Hungarian foreign Minister.

We will remind, earlier Vladimir Putin at a meeting on the creation of Russian year-round sea resorts said that Russia will solve all the tasks of the special military operation in Ukraine, as well as the issues of ensuring security in the new regions.
