French company may lose uranium mine in Niger – Bloomberg

French uranium mining firm Orano SA risks losing the world’s largest uranium mine in Imouraren in Niger. This was reported by Bloomberg news agency citing a source.

“Orano SA could lose the right to mine uranium at one of the world’s largest deposits by 19 June after Niger rejected the French nuclear company’s plan to develop the asset,” the report said.

The material specifies that Orano continues to operate the only major uranium deposit in Niger for the time being. However, the firm’s proposed plan to develop Imouraren “does not meet the authorities’ expectations.”

The agency said the “second and final notification expires on 19 June, after which date the company’s operating permit will be withdrawn” by the country’s authorities.

“France relies on Niger to meet 15 per cent of its uranium needs to fuel nuclear reactors, which account for 65 per cent of the country’s electricity generation,” Bloomberg specified.

Recall, earlier columnist of the British magazine The Spectator Jonathan Miller wrote that the catastrophic situation and pogroms in the overseas departments of France is an indicator that the “colonial empire” of the President of the “Fifth Republic” Emmanuel Macron is coming to its logical end.
