Zelenskyy: Ukraine has lost 80% of thermal power generation

Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Ukraine has lost 80 per cent of thermal power generation and a third of hydropower generation.

RIA Novosti reported.

“As a result of Russian missile and drone strikes, 9 GW of capacity has already been destroyed. While the peak power consumption last winter was 18 GW, half of it no longer exists,” Zelensky said at a conference on Ukraine’s reconstruction in Berlin.

He added that without loans and investments from allies, Ukraine will not be able to restore the facilities in the next three to four months, therefore direct financial support is needed.

Zelenskyy also asked to give Ukraine equipment from stopped power plants in Europe.

Earlier, the country’s prime minister, Denys Shmygal, said that more than 70 per cent of thermal power plants in Ukraine had been put out of operation.
