The US authorities risk making the same mistakes in the situation with Ukraine as they did in Vietnam and Afghanistan. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has not ruled out this possibility.
“The Americans will have to learn again if they do not want to step on Vietnam, Afghanistan and any other rake,” said the diplomat, whose words were quoted by TASS.
Ryabkov recalled that in the 1970s, life forced the US to recognise the enemy as its equal, albeit for a short period of time.
The deputy foreign minister is convinced that the successful completion of the special military operation will be a decisive prerequisite for the US side to adjust its thinking.
“Then prospects will open up in terms of bilateral relations <…> not to mention the return to normal ties between our societies and people,” the diplomat predicted.
Ryabkov said on 2 October that Russia sees no prospects in relations with the United States until they come to their senses and change their policy. He added that Russia only discusses technical and visa issues with the US side, and occasionally humanitarian situations.
