US President Joe Biden called the Allied landing in Normandy in June 1944 the first step towards the liberation of Europe, but did not mention the role of the USSR.
His words are transmitted by TASS.
The American leader made the statement in the White House after returning from France, where he celebrated the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings together with Western politicians.
“(The landing) was the first step in the liberation of Europe,” Biden said, saying nothing about the USSR’s contribution to the fight against Hitler’s Germany.
Earlier, Mikhail Myagkov, scientific director of the Russian Military Historical Society, spoke about the Western Allies’ landing in Normandy and its impact on the course of World War II in an interview with RT.
