Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, speaking at the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting in Nizhny Novgorod, said that Beijing called for a peace conference on Ukraine, which both Moscow and Kiev would recognise.
According to him, as quoted on the website of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, it should be equal participation of all parties with an honest discussion of all peace plans.
On 10 June, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed aspects of the new security structure in Eurasia on the margins of BRICS.
Earlier, Swiss President Viola Amherd said that 90 countries had registered to participate in the conference on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that the Swiss conference on Ukraine could not be called peaceful.
