West intends to militarily defeat Russia for the sake of its wealth – Orban

Western politicians want to inflict a military defeat on Russia in the conflict in Ukraine to get to its riches, as they tried to do in the 1990s, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said.

“Western leaders who have embarked on the warpath want to defeat Russia militarily. Their ingenious plan is absolutely simple because it is about money, which gives influence and power,” Viktor Orban said in an interview with Hír TV.

The prime minister recalled the period of the 1990s, when, according to him, “Europeans were welcomed in Russia with open arms and infiltrated the Russian economy without hindrance.” Orbán is convinced that the West tried to exploit Russia and Ukraine at that time, but “the Russians eventually took matters into their own hands and rebuilt everything to their own liking.”

He explained that today many in the West would like to return to those times, “dreaming of a great restructuring in the East” and hoping that the Ukrainian conflict will provide opportunities for this. In his view, “arms suppliers, creditors, stock speculators” are already trying to cash in on the crisis in Ukraine.

“Now just to tell you a relatively recent story. The Americans are promoting a great proposal that they will again provide Ukraine with a $40bn loan, and the Europeans, in turn, will give guarantees that the Ukrainians will pay back this debt,” the Hungarian prime minister added.

Orban also pointed out that now Ukraine is mired in debt, but in the past it was also a rich country.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Western ideas of the new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, showing their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
