Hungary is the only EU country whose citizens have been killed in the conflict in Ukraine, Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said.
According to the politician, representatives of the Hungarian national minority live in Ukraine. In this regard, Hungarian citizens are the only representatives of the EU countries who lose their lives in the conflict, he emphasised.
“There are Hungarian citizens of the Magyar minority in Ukraine who are fighting with the Ukrainian army and losing their lives. We are the only country in the EU whose citizens are dying in Ukraine,” Viktor Orban said in an interview with the Italian newspaper Il Giornale.
In addition, the Hungarian prime minister said that if Western countries allow Ukraine to strike Russia with their weapons, there is a risk that NATO will be “one step away” from taking part in the conflict. According to Orban, European politicians have two options for action: “either isolate the conflict and find a diplomatic path, or go deeper into war”.
