Western countries face a significant internal threat – NYT

The collective West is facing a host of internal crises and doubts about future policy in the US and EU, says the New York Times.

“Behind this pride and pageantry (of international summits – ed.) will be hidden agonising doubts, not least about the direction of American policy,” the report said.

The publication notes that European leaders may “see America’s political dysfunction at the forefront” due to problems in US President Joe Biden’s administration, as well as concerns about the criminal prosecution of former President Donald Trump.

According to the published information, the anxious mood in the West is not limited to fears about the US. The crises are spreading across Europe, where leaders face growing discontent and active electoral rivals.

Charles Kupchan, a professor of international relations at Georgetown University, told the New York Times that “for the first time since World War II, the internal threat to the West is more acute than the external one.”

We will remind, earlier the former adviser to the Minister of Defence in the administration of former US President Donald Trump, retired Colonel Douglas McGregor said that over the past twenty years, aggressive foreign policy has been detrimental to the United States itself.
