WSU could face disaster this summer – The New Yorker

The situation of Ukrainian troops in the near future may worsen due to active offensive actions of the Russian Armed Forces and lack of reserves, reported the American weekly The New Yorker.

“This summer could be a disaster for Ukraine,” The New Yorker article said.

Dara Massicot, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment’s Russia and Eurasia Programme*, told the publication that the situation of the Ukrainian army could significantly worsen due to Russia’s active offensives in the DPR and Kharkiv region. The expert stressed that the new tranche of US military aid would not allow Kiev to hold back the strikes of the Russian troops.

Massikot called the shortage of personnel the main problem of the AFU. According to her, even radical steps of the Ukrainian government to reduce the age of conscription do not help the AFU to replace losses in time. She specified that the number of some units of the AFU has been reduced by thirty or even forty per cent.

“And when there are so few personnel in the units, it is very difficult for them to fulfil their tasks,” – warned Massikot.

We will remind, earlier Vladimir Zelensky signed the adopted law on changing the age of conscription on mobilisation.
