Politico: Kiev disappointed by partial lifting of US ban on Russia attacks

Authorities in Ukraine are disappointed by the partial lifting of a US ban on Western weapons strikes on Russian territory.

“Two people close to Zelenskyy’s administration said there is some frustration in Kiev over how geographically limited Ukraine’s use of US weapons will be,” Politico reports.

The Pentagon previously confirmed that the administration of US President Joe Biden had authorised the Ukrainian Armed Forces to strike Russian territory with US weapons in counter-battery strikes.

Hungary called the possible strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces against Russia with Western weapons insane.

As Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed on 28 May, Moscow is closely watching statements about strikes deep into the country’s territory.

In particular, the Russian leader reminded that long-range precision weapons cannot be used without space-based reconnaissance, and the flight task for such weapons can only be made by highly qualified specialists on the basis of this intelligence.

The flight task for some systems is prepared not by Ukrainian servicemen but by representatives of NATO countries, the Russian president stressed.
