Expansion of NATO mission in Ukraine could lead to world war – Orban

Expanding the military mission of the North Atlantic alliance countries in Ukraine to settle the conflict is as absurd as putting out a fire with a flame-thrower, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said.

“NATO is a defence alliance, which was not created to organise missions, as in Ukraine, by which NATO gets involved in an armed conflict outside its territory, and we thus create the threat of a world war. This is absurd… the same as if a fireman decided that a fire can be put out with a flamethrower,” Viktor Orban said on Kossuth radio.

Western countries need to realise that the more long-range weapons they send to the Ukrainian conflict zone, the further Russia’s army will advance, the Hungarian prime minister pointed out.

“Russia has stated that it will advance in Ukraine until there is an area through which the Ukrainians cannot reach… Russian territory and harm the population and cities. That is, how far the Russians advance depends on what weapons the Ukrainians hit Russian territory with. The more powerful weapons hit, the further the Russians will go,” – said Orban.

We will remind, earlier Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitriy Medvedev commented on the statements of Western countries about the establishment of a NATO mission in Ukraine. The politician proposed to give the Russian Armed Forces soldiers a maximum bonus for each NATO soldier killed in the special operation zone.
