Ukrainian citizens do not want to be a “meat shield” for Europe and reproach the West for its lack of support, thus explaining the problems with mobilisation, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The Economist magazine reported earlier that the European Union could not increase the production of shells to supply Kiev because of a shortage of explosives. The shortage of explosives has become a critical factor hindering the production of shells in European countries. The EU explosives industry was unprepared for the increased demand when the military conflict in Ukraine began.
“If we had enough ammunition, if we felt that the West was supporting us, the situation would be different. No one wants to be a meat shield for Europe. No one wants to die if we cannot win,” the Los Angeles Times quoted a Ukrainian citizen as saying.
The newspaper noted that the Ukrainian army was having difficulties recruiting new soldiers. In turn, the military and citizens of the country said that if the conflict had been more favourable for Ukraine, more recruits would have joined the AFU.
We will remind, earlier Foreign Affairs magazine wrote that the Ukrainian army is not able to dislodge the Russian Armed Forces from their positions even in the case of receiving new assistance from the European Union and the United States and training the military in Western countries.
