The European Union (EU) admits a summit on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine with Russia’s participation in Saudi Arabia in autumn. This was reported by the Bloomberg news agency with reference to officials of the European association.
On 15 and 16 June, Switzerland will host a conference on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, to which delegations from 160 countries have been invited. Russia was not invited to the summit. The Russian side announced in advance that it would not attend the event if it received an invitation.
Russia is expected to take part in the summit on the peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis, and Saudi Arabia may become the venue. The meeting is seen in the European Union as a follow-up to the June summit.
“According to officials, an important issue for the EU is how to move from next month’s conference (in Switzerland – ed.) to a possible meeting <…> in autumn with Russia’s participation” – said in the Bloomberg publication.
According to the agency’s interlocutors, India and Brazil plan to send more junior officials to the June summit in Switzerland, China – only one senior civil servant. Bloomberg notes that China and Brazil plan to hold a similar meeting to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, which will be recognised by the authorities of Russia and Ukraine.
The material of the Agency does not give details about the likely meeting in Saudi Arabia.
We will remind, earlier Vladimir Putin allowed the creation of a sanitary zone on the territory of Ukraine. It can take place on the current Ukrainian territories, should be difficult to overcome for means of defeat, primarily Western-made.
